Shopping centre threatened by fire

A MAJOR shopping centre was threatened by fire after an arson attack at Warrington during the night.
The blaze involved a large storage container at the rear of the Alban Retail Park, off Hawleys Lane, Warrington – and flames threatened to spread to a number of retail units.
Firefighters used two hosereel jets to extinguish the fire which involved the contents of the container, which had been left open.
A Fire Service spokesman said the blaze had clearly been started deliberately and, but for prompt action by fire crews, could have spread to the nearby shops.
“We would advise businesses to always ensure containers are kept closed. The containers themselves are metal but the contents will usually burn.
