A MAJOR leakage of aviation fuel which could have caused a major fire or explosion close to Warrington town centre has been made safe by emergency services.
Fire crews and railway teams were involved in a lengthy operation after a rail tanker sprang a leak at Arpley Sidings, off Slutchers Lane, early today.
About 100 tonnes of highly volatile aviation fuel spilled onto the track after the tanker fractured during shunting operations.
Three fire appliances went to the scene at around 5.43 am.
The operation last until about 11am.
