Live concerts for all

A SERIES of nine concerts has been lined up at St Wilfrid’s Church, Grappenhall for the coming year.
The “Live at St Wilfrid’s” organisation says the programme will provide high quality concerts to suit all tastes.
First off will be a concert by Emma Kirkby, soprano and James Lisney, piano presenting music by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Debussy and the popular romantic composer Amy Beach.
There will be some laughs on February 19 when the Hatstand Opera present “A Laugh at the Opera” with a rib-tickling romp through comic opera favourites.
On March 14, the Frith Piano Quartet – Robert Heard, violin, Louise Williams, viola, Richard Jenkinson, ‘cello and Benjamin Frith, piano will play music by Mozart, Walton and Mendelssohn.
April 30 will see a solo concert by Alexander Karpeyev, piano, playing works by Bach, Schubert, Scarlatti and Liszt.
The annual visit by students from Chetham’s School of Music comes on May 16.
On June 25, Eyal Kless and Simon Lane, violin and piano, will tackle a programme of Schubert, Beethoven, Charles Ives, Richard Strauss and Brahms.
The Centenary Touring Group arrive on September 12, with music from shows such as Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, The King and I and Hello Dolly.
October 8 sees the Fourtune wind and piano quartet will play music ranging from Gershwin to Bizet with the theme tune from Dr Findlay’s Casebook thrown in.
The group consists of John Gough, piano, Karen Slack, clarinet, Rachel Holt, flute and Laurence Perkins, bassoon.
Finally, on November 12, the Corus Brass Ensemble, conducted by Nigel Taylor, will present a wide-ranging programme including Debussy, Dvorak, Jerome Kern and Dave Brubeck.
All concerts start at 7.30pm.
