Ten men of Town hold on for cup replay

WARRINGTON Town produced a gritty battling performance to earn a 2-2 draw at Midlands based Romulus to earn an FA Trophy 2nd qualifying round replay at Cantilever Park, tomorrow, Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
Town played the last half hour with 10 men following the sending off of defender Matty Farrell for a second yellow for a sliding challenge after earlier being booked for dissent.over Unibond Premier outfit Matlock Town in the previous round and started brightly, Phil Hadland first to go close shooting straight at Matt Harris in the home goal.
The early loss of midfielder Franny Smith through injury, helped the home side get into the game, with captain Tyrone Fagan blasting well Town defender Matt Farrell was soon in the game at both ends, firstly clearing off the line, before blasting narrowly over at the other end. It was in the 30th minute when the home side took the lead, Fagan meeting a free kick to glance a header beyond Mottram.
Town were level three minutes later when Towey finished well with an angled drive, after good work by Chris Gahgan.
Both sides had a chance to go ahead in first half stoppage time, Towey going close after some good individual skill before blasting over the bar and Fagan being denied by Mottram with a spectacular diving save.
The half time introduction of striker Tom Lamb, returning from injury, gave Town’s attack a new dimension, However it was the 60th minute dismissal of Farrell that could have swayed the game in the home sides favour.
Captain Andy Thomas was called upon to make a crucial block from a goalbound effort.
The home side took the lead in the 74th minute, when Fagan was once again on hand to slot home after a goalmouth scramble. Once again the lead lasted only three minutes, this time Town’s equaliser came from an angled piledriver from midfielder Anthony Daniels from 25 yards to send the travelling fans wild.
The home side went in search of a winner, but due to a combination of good defending and two good saves by Mottram, the ten men held on to earn a replay.
The winners of the replay have been drawn at home to play Nantwich Town on Saturday November 22 at 3pm.
