WARRINGTON Town marched on in the FA Trophy with a convincing 3-0 victory over Chorley in last night’s replay.
A stunning strike from Phil Hadland midway through the first half set Town on their way as they defied the appalling weather conditions to turn in one of their best performances of the season.
Second half goals from striker Thomas Lamb, now returning to form after missing the start of the season through injury, set up a mouth watering visit to Unibond Premier outfit Matlock Town on Saturday week (Oct 18).
Following Saturday’s goalless draw, both teams were evenly matched during the opening exchanges until Hadland’s stunning strike from just outside the box.
Chorley never gave up battling but the match was as good as over when Lamb struck with his first after a goal mouth scramble.
His second was a well struck goal as he controlled the ball on the turn and volleyed into the net giving the keeper no chance.
At 3-0 the game was beyond Chorley and their frustrations came to the fore when captain Kieran Fletcher was shown a straight red for a vicious and totally pointless tackle on Carl Rendell near the touchline. Carl understandably reacted but did well not to go further than he did in squaring up to Fletcher, else he would have befallen the same fate. As it was he was just booked.
Town travel to Ashton in the Liverpool senior cup tomorrow (Thursday) and then visit Skelmersdale in the 2nd round of the President’s Cup next Tuesday.
Their home game with Durham scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to Durham’s FA cup commitments.
