Last gasp promotion for Grappers

THEY left it to the last match of the season, but Grappenhall clinched promotion to the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League first division as runners-up.
There was never any real prospect of winning the title but 12 points from the final weather affected game against Mobberly were enough to ensure that next summer “Grappers” will be back in division one.
This will mean a resumption of “derby” games with Warrington, who survived in division one by coming fourth from bottom.
This was a disappointing end to the season as Warrington had shown early promise.
Grappenhall 2nd just missed on promotion which would have seen them in the league’s 2nd XI premier division, losing their last match at Birkenhead Park.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park came a respectable fifth in division two while Stretton just missed out on promotion by coming third in division three.
But Stretton 2nd were runners up in Division B, with Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd coming second.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton came an encouraging sixth in their first season in division one and could have done better but for having three matches abandoned to the weather.
Rylands were champions in division two, winning 12 matches and only losing once. They will be promoted – despite having 16 points deducted.
Glazebury avoided the drop by the skin of their teeth, coming third from bottom. But they earned a hard-fought draw with the champions in their last match – something of a fillip after a disappointing season.
In division three, Appleton 2nd came fourth but Glazebury 2nd finished third from bottom, mainly due to having five matches abandoned to the weather.
