WARRINGTON Town snatched a dramatic F.A. Cup preliminary round
replay victory with a stunning 88th minute strike from skipper Kevin
Towey at North East Counties Division one outfit Nostell Miners Welfare
to go through 2-1.
Town who disappointed at Cantilever Park on Saturday in a goaless game
when keeper Richie Mottram spared their blushes with a last gasp finger
tip save, took the lead on 35 minutes through centre forward Phil
Hadland, with a deflected effort for a half time lead.
But the home side equalised on 65 minutes and were well on top when
they had what appeared to be a stone wall penalty turned down.
Warrington rode their luck and then Towey struck with two minutes left
on the clock to send Town into the 1st qualifying round, when they face
a tougher trip to North East Counties Division One table toppers
Winterton, based in Scunthorpe on Saturday, September 13, kick off 3pm.
Before then Town travel to Chorley in the league this Saturday and then
entertain Colwyn Bay at Cantilever Park next Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
