Firefighters crowned UK champions

TWO Warrington firefighters are national champions after competing in the United Kingdom Rescue Organisations “Challenge” contest – and beat the current World champions to earn the title.
Lee Howells and Adam McConkie, members of Blue Watch at Warrington Fire Station, took part in Trauma Challenge competition at Stirling, in Scotland, after winning the regional heat.
They were up against top emergency service medics from all over the country, including the current World Champions.
The contest involved a series of tests including extricating “victims” from a wrecked car, dealing with someone who had fallen from an aircraft ejector seat and other traumatic situations.
A Blue Watch spokesman said: “They did Warrington proud and were judged the best. Now they qualify to take part in the World Championships in October next year.
“We’re not quite sure where it will be held yet – it was originally going to be in the United States but there now seems to be some doubt.”
