New discount travel for students

STUDENTS are being offered a new and improved discount rate for travel from Warrington Borough Transport and the borough council.
Learners aged between 16 and 19 will be able to travel on the buses seven days a week, 52 weeks a year under the new scheme at a cost of just £6 per week.
Under the previous scheme, the saver cards could only be used during term time and on week days only.
Students wishing to use the network service will be charged £7.50 per week as this extends to outside the Warrington area.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, the borough council’s executive member for Children’s Services, said: “We decided to bring in this fantastic new scheme for students which will not only help them get from A to B but it’s also encouraging young people to use public transport and travel independently.”
Chairman of Warrington Borough Transport, Coun Les Hoyle, (pictured) added: “Warrington Borough Transport is delighted to be a partner with the council in the new Student Saver Card Scheme. We hope that by extending the availability of half price travel throughout the year that students will gain more independence, and benefit the environment at the same time.
“We are sure they will appreciate the reliability and comfort of modern passenger transport, and will consider using our buses for at least some of their local journeys in the future.”
For more information about how to apply for a savercard, ask any sixth form or college in the borough.
Card users under the old system can show their pass at the Warrington Interchange and receive the new savercard.
