A HEARTLESS thief has struck at the home of an elderly resident in Warrington this afternoon.
A quantity of cash was taken from the home of the victim, who is in his 70s, on St Peter’s Way, Warrington at around 1pm.
The man, who is described as 5ft 8in in height, with short fair to brown hair, wearing light blue jeans and a pink stripy top, gained entry to the property by telling the victim there had been a boiler explosion at a neighbour’s house.
He then kept the victim talking for a period of time, before leaving the premises.
Police believe this could have been a distraction for another person to enter the house and take the money.
The thief is also believed to have a speech impediment.
Officers are urging residents, particularly elderly residents, to ask for identification from anyone who calls at their door.
Anyone with any information about this incident, or who may have been approached in similar circumstance, is asked to contact officers at Warrington on 0845 458 0000.
Information can also be left anonymously by contacting the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
