WARRINGTON Town FC will have the chance of lifting the Football League Trophy when they kick start their season with a special charity game this Sunday, August 10.
The club’s new principal sponsors, Johnstone’s Paints, who sponsor the Football League Trophy, will be bringing the cup to the event, enabling fans and players to have their photographs taken with it – in exchange for a donation to charity.
Stars of yesteryear will be making a guest appearance as promotion hunting Town take on the Claire House Childrens’ Hospice “All Stars” in a double header event, which will also include a family fun day.
Club ambassador, ex Man City star Gary Owen, will make a guest appearance alongside former FA Cup Final referee Joe Worrall, while the Claire House “All Stars” will include a sprinkling of ex-professionals, including Mike Marsh and Jamie Durnin from Liverpool and Lee Martin, ex-Manchester United.
The event, which includes a special challenge match, featuring a Warrington Town XI taking on the home town club of North West Development Agency Chief Steven Broomhead, New Longton FC from Preston, will also include a family fun fair, beat the goalie competition, hog roast and much, much more.
Tickets priced £5 each or £10 for a family of four can be bought in advance from club secretary Barry Thorpe by email at [email protected] or by calling 0773 344 6412.
Town will be unveiling their new sponsors, which also include intraining, a new job creation agency which has set up in the town helping people on benefits find employment.
With a new board in charge the club has already achieved record breaking season ticket sales and are aiming to
gain promotion from the Unibond Division One North, with the ultimate goal of bringing football league status to
Warrington as part of a five year plan.
Club Chairman Dave Hughes said: “We went through a lot of changes last season but finished the season on a high finishing mid-table instead of the usual battle against relegation.
