TWO Warrington teachers have won a national award for the most innovative use of technology resources in personal finance education.
Helen Phillips and Christine Myers, from Penketh High School, won £1,500 for their school in the RBS personal
finance education awards for schools.
The awards were presented at the Globe Theatre, on London’s South Bank by Formula 1 racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart.
Students from the school were at the ceremony, met Sir Jackie and went on a tour of the Daily Telegraph newsroom.
Sir Jackie said: “I’ve overcome many challenges in my life so far, and one key one is understanding how to manage your money. The RBS Awards are acknowledging the schools and teachers who are making a real effort to equip their students with crucial money management skills they will use all through their life.”
Business department staff at Penketh took part in the making of a film about credit and debit and spending responsibly to be shown in assemblies.
The film features interviews with pupils from the school talking about where their money comes from and how they spend it. The final part shows a young member of staff acting in a role play about his monthly salary to show the various compulsory payments he must make each month and the choices he must make about how to spend what is left over.
The film fulfilled the criteria of the awards by involving the whole school, being innovative in its approach, and making personal finance education relevant to the pupils.
