SPORTING youngsters from Warrington have been honoured at a special ceremony by a British Olympian.
Priestley College honoured their top sporting achievers at a ceremony hosted by sailor David Mellor, who has represented Britain for the past 15 years.
The big winners at the event were Emma Williams and Jordan Bibby, who both received the college’s Sports Personality of the Year Award.
Other awards were also presented for academic excellence, national honours and coaching.
Teams that have enjoyed success throughout the years, like the women’s football team, Rugby League team and Basketball team, were also honoured.
David Mellor, who also coached Ben Ainslie to Olympic gold, said: “It was a real treat to be invited to present the awards at this very special occasion
“Having been involved in elite level competition for a long time, I can give a first hand account of what kind of commitment it takes to get to the very top of your field. If you have a burning ambition and the right attitude you will be amazed about what you can achieve.”
Curriculum Manager for Sport, Nigel Howells, added: “The Sports Personality of the Year awards are now a permanent fixture on the College calendar and once again we had so much to celebrate at the event this year.
“I wish our departing students all the very best for the challenges that lie ahead and look forward to working with the next set of young people joining us in September.”
