TOWN Hall chiefs are set to enter into negotiations to form a strategic alliance which would create more wealth within Warrington.
Council leaders and chief executives from Warrington will meet with their Cheshire counterparts to establish a course of action to ensure the region maintains its strong voice at Westminster.
The aim of the discussions is to ensure the future development of the area as an economic sub region.
Any strategic partnership would also tackle issues like shortages in affordable housing, transport and regeneration.
This will involve pooling resources, partnership working and better strategic planning.
Manchester and Liverpool have already combined forces to form a local authority partnerships based on the City Region concept.
Sub regions create more wealth per head of the population, at £19,400, more than any other area of the North West, which averages £15,571.
Councillor Ian Marks, Leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “We have a number of really exciting projects underway which will attract new investment into our sub-region.
“By working together we can be a strong and confident force that will make things happen for the benefit of people in our area.”
Leader of Cheshire County Council, Paul Findlow, added: “Cheshire and Warrington have been long been recognised by Government as a separate economic sub region and there is agreement in principle that Cheshire West and Cheshire East Unitaries will build on this relationship.”
