Street fight led to fractured cheekbone

A DRUNKEN street fight in Warrington town centre involving five men and two women left a local man nursing a fractured cheekbone.
Lee Watkinson, 38, and Clint Burton, 21, were both involved in the early hours fracas on Academy Way following a heavy drinking session.
Both pleaded guilty at Warrington Crown Court to affray, with both men telling police they could not remember the incident because of the amount they had to drink.
David Jones, prosecuting, said Burton, from Withers Avenue, Orford, Warrington began arguing with three men who had been abusive towards two women he was with.
Watkinson, from Chiltern Road, Orford , later arrived to try and break up the skirmish, but ended up hitting one of the three men in chest but completely missing with another punch.
One of the victims, Andrew Jones, suffered a fractured cheekbone, bruising and swelling as a result of the incident, but it was unclear from CCTV footage who delivered the blow that caused the injury.
Burton was ordered to complete 100 hours unpaid work, with Watkinson given 80 hours unpaid work. Both were also ordered to pay £350 costs.
Robert Golinski, for Burton, said he had cooperated fully with police and had never been in such a state with alcohol before.
Michael Davies, for Watkinson, told the court said it was his client’s original intention to break up the fight.
He added Watkinson would have to complete his unpaid work order before October, because he was due to serve in Cyprus with the Territorial Army.
