Warrington Town 2 Sheffield FC 1

PROMOTION chasing Sheffield FC came un-stuck against a resolute Warrington side at Cantilever Park.
The visitors started brightest, but couldn’t break down a strong Town defence led by captain Thomas Spearitt.
Thomas Lamb forced The Wire’s only chance of the first half when his shot whistled past the upright as the game entered half time all square.
Just four minutes after the re-start, The Yellows went ahead when Anthony Daniels squeezed a shot past visiting keeper Martin Kearney.
He could and should have had his second moments later, but could only strike wide of the target.
Front man Carl Rendell sealed the points on 67 minutes after a defensive mistake by Sheffield allowed him to score with a good finish.
Asa Ingall pulled one back for the Sheffield outfit when he headed in from a corner, and only for a fantastic Diego Bassanini save in injury time, could have levelled the scores.
