THE funeral will take place at Thelwall Parish Church at 1.30pm on Thursday (April 24) of former Mayor of Warrington Ted Lafferty.
He had been ill for some time, but had continued with his Town Hall duties – attending the last meeting of the council on March 3 and taking part in the debate.
Coun Lafferty was also still active in his ward and only recently was successful in a campaign to get improved safety fencing on a stretch of the Bridgewater Canal.
He was Mayor in 2004-05 – the town’s first Liberal Democrat Mayor. His wife, Pat, was Mayoress.
During their year of office, the Mayor’s Charity Appeal raised nearly £30,000 for Warrington Disability Partnership and the League of Friends of Warrington Hospital.
