Brigg Town 0 Warrington Town 2
THE Wire travelled to Lincolnshire in a confident mood after beating Grantham at home last time out and were looking to continue their winning trend against struggling Brigg Town.
After a slow first 20 minutes, the game burst into, life with Warrington stopper Diego Bassanini being called into action to deny the home side’s top scorer Rick Day.
Only a minute later, The Yellows took the lead when Carl Rendall met Michael Owens’ corner to power the ball home.
Bassanini was again Warrington’s saviour when he pulled off a full length save to deny Brigg midfielder Matty Oswin.
It was The Wire who were beginning to take control of the game towards the end of the first half and indeed they started the second half in a similar fashion, with winger Anthony Daniels twice going close in quick succession.
Thomas Lamb was next to force a good stop out of Steer in the Brigg goal, before the home side failed to capitalise on their best chance to draw level as Bassanini missed a cross and had Thomas Spearitt and Andrew Thomas to thank for clearing off the line.
The Argentine did make up for his error moments later when he smartly tipped Day’s effort over the bar.
Lamb then wrapped the game up for the visitors when he raced clear from Bassanini’s long ball to slot home.
It could have been even better for Warrington as Steer pulled off two good saves to deny Rendall and Lamb in the closing stages.
