College basketball team tastes victory

JUST three years after setting up a basketball development centre, Warrington’s Priestley College is celebrating their team being crowned league and play-off winners.
The centre was established to give players the opportunity to train, play and study the sport in great depth.
Based at the Ball Hall in Latchford, the team has notched wins against Preston, Runshaw and Holy Cross during the season.
Priestley are in fact the only North West college undefeated this term and are set to face Chorley-based Runshaw in the semi-finals of the knock-out cup later this month.
Team manager Paul Hopper said: “The rise in popularity of basketball has been rapid and this year led to a squad of 15 dedicated players training twice a week under the guidance of coach and former student Adam Espin. The close-knit team spirit created by this has allowed us to excel every time we have stepped onto the court.
“Following our success at both local and regional level we are hoping to enter a national competition come September in order to build yet further.”
