Narrow defeat for Town

Alsager 3 Warrington Town 2
THE Yellows travelled to Alsager looking to get back to winning ways in the league, but started slowly on a dismal afternoon at Wood Park.
It wasn’t long before the home side took a deserved lead when winger Jimmy McCarthy was given time and space to fire a shot past Diego Bassanini from the edge of the box.
Bassanini was then called in to action twice shortly afterwards, producing fine stops to keep Town just one behind.
Much against the run of play, Warrington grabbed an equaliser on 27 minutes when striker Carl Rendell smashed home from close range.
The Wire then enjoyed a period of sustained pressure, with Kevin Towey going close before Bassanini was forced into a good save to keep the score level at the break.
Within 90 seconds of the restart, Alsager did take the lead, this time after a defensive mistake allowed Lee Talbot an easy finish.
Thomas Lamb missed a golden chance to reply immediately for Warrington, but his shot was cleared off the line after Danny Roberts parried his initial effort.
Alsager made it three shortly afterwards when McCarthy slotted home to finish off an incisive counter attack.
Karl Brown then flashed a shot come cross narrowly wide before captain Thomas Spearitt finished a mazy run with an unstoppable shot to beat Roberts.
Unfortunately that was the last kick of the game and Warrington will have to seek their revenge against Grantham Town on Saturday.
