Prestigious award for family firm

A FAMILY business from Preston Brook, near Warrington, has won a prestigious award.
Newbreed Freight Ltd, has been named “’Best UK Family Business, Northern Region”, in the £1-5m turnover category of the Coutts Prize for Family Business 2007/ 2008.
The company will now go on to compete in the £1-5M category at the national finals to be held in central London in June.
The Coutts Prize for Family Business recognises the best run family businesses in England and Wales, and compliments Coutts successful “Forum for Family Business Owners” that is held throughout the UK.,BR. The international freight forwarding business began operation in 1981. They arrange the export and import of goods from the UK to any part of the world. This is done by sea, air freight and road. Key specialist areas include USA, China and Brazil. Air freight is an important part of the business.
The things which impressed the evaluation committee about Newbreed Freight Ltd included:

  • the involvement of three generations of family members in the business, allied to a carefully planned approach to future management and ownership succession.
  • the company’s response to the changing needs of a fast-moving industry and their ability to work through difficult periods whilst keeping their focus on customer service;
  • the emphasis on the training and development of both family and non-family staff; and
  • the ongoing support for community and charitable activities through the investment of time and money.
