Warrington Town Reserves 4 Grappenhall Sports 0
Warrington Town reserves produced probably their best display of the season so far as they brushed aside Grappenhall Sports in a local derby at Cantilever Park on Saturday to move up to fourth place in the Cheshire League Division Two.
Goals from Bell, Mitchell, Latham and Potter ensured they took revenge on their neighbours for their recent guardian cup exit following a penalty shoot out.
Town began in determined fashion and might have scored twice in the opening five minutes when Martin Bell clipped a shot just wide and then failed to convert a cross from Toone at the far post.
Bell did open the scoring after eight minutes when he finished well after a brilliant run and cross for Andy Potter.
Warrington doubled their advantage over a shell-shocked Grappenhall side after 17 minutes when Graeme Mitchell finished well from inside the penalty area after Danny Toone had played him through a bewildered visitors defence.
Grappenhall did come back into the game with some purpose and should have reduced the deficit after 25 minutes when Sisson hit the post and saw his follow up shot cleared from the line by Craig Hall.
It was to prove a costly miss as Warrington scored a third five minutes later when Steve Latham drove an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net from just outside the penalty area after being set up by Mitchell.
The second period began with Grappenhall enjoying more possession but never really threatening the Warrington goal.
Town then stepped things up and both Bell and Potter might have added a fourth before James Parr missed a penalty for Warrington following a foul on the excellent Danny Toone.
Andy Potter did indeed scramble home the fourth following a corner after 80 minutes to give Warrington their biggest win of the season and keep them very much in touch with the leaders in the hunt for promotion.
