Town slump to trophy exit

Warrington Town 0 Ossett Town 3

TOWN’S FA Trophy dream came to an abrupt end when they crashed out of the competition after a dismissal home performance.
Ossett Town were the visitors to Cantilever Park for the Second qualifying round clash and it took them only six minutes to race into an early lead after Liam Coyne made a hash of a clearance, which allowed Scott Jackson to score with ease.
Phil Mitchell’s hard work nearly paid off a minute before half time, but his cross was blocked in Town’s only attack of note in the first half.
The Wire’s defence looked shaky as they only just managed to keep Ossett at bay in the opening moments of the second half.
An irate Ian Street was then sent from the dug out, which meant Town’s boss had to watch the rest of the game from the terraces.
Steve Smith engineered a good opportunity for Ged Courtney, but the substitute couldn’t control his header and fired way over the bar.
The visitors were then gifted the opportunity to double their advantage after Matty Elder brought down James Walshaw in the box, Carl Forergill duly converted the spot kick.
Scott Jackson grabbed his second and Ossett’s third with five minutes remaining, when he looped a header over Danny Morton to dump Town out of this year’s competition.
