Romulus 0 V 1 Warrington Town

WARRINGTON Town secured a hard earned 1-0 victory Romulus in this FA Trophy first qualifying round tie, without regulars Karl Robinson and Kevin Hannon, but saw the re-introduction of Dave Tickle to the squad.
Their reward is a home tie against Premier Division Ossett Town in the 2nd Qual Rd on November 3.
At RTomulus both sides began brightly and it was the home side who had the first chance, striker Leon Mitchell seeing his effort looping harmlessly over the bar.
Town were well in the game and it wasn’t long before they were creating chances, striker Chris Moores shooting straight at Romulus’ keeper Matt Harris and Phil Mitchell driving his 20 yard effort narrowly over the bar.
The best chance of the first half, arguably, fell to Chris Moores, who saw his shot saved for a corner by Harris’ feet. Moores went close soon after when his overhead kick went narrowly wide of the Romulus upright.
The start of the second half, saw the introduction of Dave Tickle, who replaced Phil Mitchell. Chris Moores was still creating the best opportunities for Town and it was indeed, he, who saw his effort fly high over the bar once again. Moores strike partner, Lee Thompson was proving a handful for the home defence, and it was his long range effort that, deservedly, put Town ahead, unleashing a dipping effort into the far corner of the net, past a statuesque Harris, from a Steve Smith throughball.
Romulus pushed forward in search of an equaliser but midfielder Lei Brown saw his weak header saved easily by Danny Morton in the Town goal.
The home side were denied a penalty, in the 68th minute when top scorer Tyrone Fagan went down in the box, but the match official waved away the home sides claims.
Town were still looking dangerous and Thompson went close once again, just being beaten by Harris to a throughball.
The last real chance of the game fell to Roms midfielder Nick Heath, who saw his header go straight at Morton in the Town goal.
