Town defeat table toppers

Sheffield FC 0 Warrington Town 1
DESPITE a nightmare trip which saw Town arrive at the ground after the scheduled kick off time, Warrington started brightly, in their new all white strip against the current league leaders.
The first chance of the game fell to striker Ged Courtney, who placed his header too close to Sheffield keeper Jamie Holmshaw.
The home side also began brightly and striker Vill Powell had two good chances to open the scoring, shooting wide from eight yards and volleying wide after beating Town keeper Danny Morton.
New signing Chris Moores was causing the home defence problems and indeed it was Moores who put Town ahead in the 27th minute beating Holmshaw with a powerful low drive into the far corner, after neat work from winger Kevin Hannon.
Sheffield nearly equalised when Gary Townsend forced keeper Morton to tip the ball over the bar.
Moores had two more good chances before half time, dragging both efforts narrowly wide of the goal.
The second half began with Town having to replace the influential Karl Robinson, who left the field through injury. Shortly after, the referee had to leave the field for the same reason, leaving eight minutes to be added on at the end of the game.
Both sides were now creating chances, Town going close through Moores, with a fiercesome rising drive, Courtney, who shot narrowly wide on the turn, and Hannon whose cross from the left almost crept into the net.
Sheffield’s best chances fell to captain Karl Colley who twice saw headers go close.
Town should have wrapped the game up through Courtney, but twice missed the target when well placed. The last chance of the game fell to substitute Lee Thompson, who shot wide of the target.

Town: Morton, McAllister, Fitzsimmons (C), Dunne, Coyne, Robinson, Smith, Ellison, Moores, Courtney, Hannon Subs: P. Mitchell, Crompton, Thompson.
