Has anyone noticed that in “period” films and TV programmes set in the Fifties and Sixties, the wardrobe team always seem to get it wrong. I lived through these periods and I know we didn’t dress like that! It seems film makers are either ignorant and don’t research dress fashions sufficiently or feel it is necessary to deliberately go back to an earlier period to get over the fact that they are talking about the past. Nearly all the Fifties and Sixties films and TV programmes I have seen recently showed people actually wearing clothes from the Twenties and Thirties.
I’d be interested to know if others (of the appropriate generation, of course!) think the same.
