Large fire after reports of explosion near Winwick Road

A LARGE blaze broke out near Winwick Road late last night after reports of an explosion.
Emergency crews were called just after 10.45pm to the fire off Athlone Road, behind the Alban Retail Park, and eight fire engines attended the scene.
Nearby residents reported hearing a loud bang, which could be heard as far away as Birchwood.
Cheshire Police tweeted at around midnight: “CheshireFire and Police are at scene of a fire in North Warrington. The fire is contained and there is no cause for concern.”
The fire service used jets to cool nearby gas tanks and worked to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to nearby premises.
