A GROUP of Warrington residents is to join forces with the borough council to clean up their local area.
The residents from the Huntley Street area of Great Sankey plan to carry out the clean up on Thursday, August 28.
Councillors and officers from the authority’s neighbourhood, public protection and street services are all getting involved – and it is hoped that local landlords will also join in.
Residents will at 10am on the day to tackle fly-tipping and littering issues – and afterwards there will be a children’s activity event in Marina Avenue Park, with Sankey Valley Children’s Centre, from 1pm.
Cllr David Keane, the council’s member for environment and public protection said: “It costs £74 million nationally to remove and dispose of fly tipped waste. The removal of waste, which has been illegally dumped in our streets, is placing a real strain on our local services in these difficult financial times not to mention the blight on our
communities.
“The council is constantly working to help people to dispose of their waste correctly and are determined to take action against those who continue to fly tip.
“We can’t tackle these things alone and need people to come forward and help look after their own communities. We are keen to support these type of events and will provide support and help where we can.
“I am delighted that residents, councillors and officers from the council have all come together to find a local solution to this problem and are working together to tackle it. I would urge as many people as possible to join in and equipment will be provided.”
Further work is being undertaken to identify those who are fly-tipping. Residents are being urged to report people who fly tip on 01925 443322 or via email on [email protected]
