Police hunt for Thorn Cross prisoners on the run

POLICE are appealing for information on the whereabouts of two prisoners who have absconded from custody from Thorn Cross Open Prison at Appleton Thorn, Warrington.
Anthony Peloe, (pictured top right) aged 43 and John Arnold, aged 30, were found to be missing around 10.30 a.m. yesterday, Tuesday (May 20) by prison officials, who immediately reported the matter to Cheshire Police.
Cheshire Officers have been engaged in enquiries to locate the two men, who both originate from the Liverpool area.
Peloe was convicted of possession of firearms with intent to commit harm on 14 December 2005. He was sentenced to 3 years, but with an
indeterminate sentence. He is described as a white man, 5? 8″ tall, and of proportionate build. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing green prison issue trousers.
Arnold was convicted of robbery on 8 May 2006. He was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment, also with an indeterminate sentence. He is described as a white man, around 5? 11″ tall, and slim in build. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He may also be wearing prison issue green trousers.
Police are appealing to anybody who may have seen the two men, since 1030 a.m. on Tuesday morning, or have any information regarding their current whereabouts, to make contact with them using the police non-emergency number 101, and quoting incident 306 of 20/05/2014. Although both men have been risk assessed for open conditions, police are advising as a precaution not to approach them – anyone who sees them is advised to immediately ring 999.
Supt Martin Cleworth of Warrington police said, “Cheshire Police are making every effort to locate these two men including liaising with colleagues in other Forces. They may be travelling together or separately. My advice to any member of the public who sees them is not to approach them, but to immediately ring police on 999. I would also ask members of the public to be mindful that the men remain outstanding, and despite the hot weather, be cautious about leaving your house or car insecure with an open window. If you have any concerns at all, contact your local police station.”
The open prison recently came under criticism for failing to report a number of issues, including one escape every two weeks, as well as housing 35 offenders jailed for serious offences, 27 prisoners serving 10 or more years and just 12 per cent of the 309 prisoners being youths.
Warrington South MP David Mowat said: “Two escapes a month is unacceptable and it is clearly necessary that the criteria for transfer to open prisons is looked at. Justice Secretary Chris Grayling announced a review last month and it is important that we act quickly to get this sorted out. “
