Housing plan put off again over traffic issues

PLANNERS have for a second time deferred a plan for 66 houses on the site of a former Warrington school.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee put off consideration of the plan on the site of the former St Oliver Plunkett RC Primary School, Birchwood, because of doubts of traffic issues.
They had deferred the scheme previously, in March, on similar grounds.
The proposals, put forward by MCI Developments Ltd involved the site of the former school, which closed in 2003. They were opposed by Birchwood Town Council.
The site is now mostly grassland, with a number of trees and some hardstanding.
The developers hope to build 32 two bedroom terraced properties, eight two bedroom semi-detached, 23 three bedroom semi-detached, two three bedroom terraced properties and one three bedroom detached house.  All would be of two storeys and a play area is included in the blueprint.
Birchwood Town Council says a pedestrian crossing should be installed on Admiral’s Road to ensure a safe route to Birchwood High School.
