Rotary Club bidding to bring some Christmas cheer with annual Santa float

1

DESPITE the ongoing problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic members of Lymm Rotary Club are still hoping to bring some Christmas cheer to the village with their annual Santa float.

For over 50 years Lymm Rotary Club has been involved with organising the Christmas Float with Santa around Lymm and Thelwall. In recent years they have involved members from many of the good causes which operate in the area. This has worked very well and has meant that Rotary has been able to share any donations made with these local good causes, thus in turn helping them in their works for the coming year.
Club spokesperson Colin Oakley said: “With the arrival of Covid-19 we now face new challenges, as does everyone else in the village. We are all aware that we have to social distance from people and this casts doubt on our ability to do a house to house collection this year.
“We are watching the news as the virus progresses but recently it has been seen to be getting worse. However, the members are still very keen to bring Christmas to the local people. If nothing else changes by December we are considering running the float around the routes that we normally visit, but with a minimum of support staff and we will not be knocking on any doors.
“Unfortunately Santa will not be able to talk to any of the youngsters as he will have to be distanced on the float itself, but will be able to be seen from people’s front windows. All of this is subject to approval nearer the time from the local authorities and we will obviously have to take into account the prevailing rules and restrictions.
“We have been asked whether we could still raise money for the local good causes using electronic means and we are looking at options for doing this, however, the first rule has to be the safety of all involved.
“We will try our best to try to bring Christmas cheer to the area around Lymm. We will send out more information nearer the time to update people.”

  1. There will be no social distancing on the float and it is going to all the roads in Lymm.

One person has – or does not realise they have COVID working the float we are all at risk.

COVID can still be present on plastic and packaging for up to 2 weeks – the sweets you throw therefore not a good idea guys,

Join the modern world and set up a fund me account and I’m sure me and others can around Lymm will contribute online.

You guys at the Rotary club do an amazing job but this will also cut down on emissions from that diesel milk float you drive around.

Keep up the good work. Think smarter. Stay safe
