Parish council bids fond farewell to devoted clerk

IN the middle of lockdown Culcheth & Glazebury Parish Council appointed a successor to the role of Parish Clerk, following the retirement of Mike Durrington, who had been clerk since 2008.

Parish Vice Chairman Mrs Margaret Webber said: “Parish Councillors were very sorry to see Mike’s departure; he will be a very hard act to follow.
“He has served the Parish Council with great efficiency and devotion over a period of twelve years and has seen a succession of parish councillors come and go, guiding them through the intricacies of procedure, legislation and custom with unerring judgement and good humour.
“We would have liked to have held a formal presentation to celebrate Mike’s service to the parish but social distancing rules made a traditional send-off impossible.”
However, on behalf of the whole council, current Chairman of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council Cllr Peter Holmes was able to manage, suitably socially distanced, to present a commemorative certificate of appreciation, a Bent’s voucher and a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion.
“We wish Mike and Elaine a very long and happy retirement,” added Cllr Webber.
Meanwhile the parish council extend a hearty welcome to Mike’s successor, Mrs Tina Rogers-Smith.
