New mum will be forever grateful to maternity team at Warrington Hospital

A NEW mum says she wil be “forever grateful” to the team at Warrington Hospital’s Maternity Unit after spending four days welcoming her baby son into the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Charlene Haslam, husband Tony and their new son Bobby, are now safely back at their Penketh home – but the reality of the world right now and having a baby in it, was something they could never have expected nine months ago!

Charlene said: “Having spent four days in hospital due to being induced,  no visitors were allowed on the induction ward where I spent two nights which was grim. But tony came and we walked the grounds of the hospital in our masks to pass some time and try to get baby out!  But that didn’t work and seeing Warrington hospital car park empty on a Saturday day like was crazy in itself!
“The worry of it being my first and not knowing what was to come was daunting too, trying to keep family and friends updated whilst being so scared at the same time but trying not to show it was tough!
“But my reasoning for this article was to mention just how bloody amazing the staff were, before and after baby!

“My labour went on for 10 years (so it felt) but I felt at ease when it came to actually crunch time (well it bloody hurt but I was calm) but from the midwives in the induction unit , to the labour ward to everyone in theatre and on C23 after it ! THANK YOU so much.
“I will always remember the little reassuring comments off every member of staff and how nice everyone was, even the cleaners would come over for a chat (masked / gowned and gloved of course). And the angels on C23 the night after my section when Bobby wouldn’t settle as he was bringing mucus up and I hadn’t slept for 24 hours and they wheeled him away from my bed to go feed him and look after him for the night , I appreciated that so much!
“The staff would come over and have chats with me and cuddles with Bobby and it felt like you could still share him with the world.
“We are all in this together and they made it a less scary time being in there and I will be forever grateful for the team at Warrington Hospital Maternity Unit.”
