Fire crews in three-hour battle to save house

FIRE crews fought a three-hour battle to extinguish a blaze at a mid-terraced house at Warrington last night.
The fire was in a bedroom at the property in Mercer Street, Burtonwood.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to tackle the well established fire. Gas and electricity supplies were isolated and an inner cordon set up for the safety of the crews.
Areas affected by the fire were then damped down to make them safe and smoke was cleared from the house using a ventilation unit. Firefighters stripped back and cut away parts of the house that had been affected by the fire and checked for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.
Adjoining properties were also checked to make sure that the fire had not spread to them.
Once they were satisfied that the house and the adjoining properties were safe firefighters left the scene.
No-one was injured as a result of the fire.
An investigation has started into the cause of the fire, but it is not believed it was started deliberately.
