TWO boys, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested at Warrington as part of the ongoing Operation Sovereigns – an investigation into bike thefts in the town.
The youths have been questioned on suspicion of robbery and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Detectives have been investigating an increase in the number of cycle thefts which have occurred near schools across Warrington as children have been travelling home.
Both plain clothed and uniformed officers have been patrolling key areas after school both as a deterrent and for reassurance.
Police also strongly advised children to try and avoid travelling home alone and to stay with a group of friends.
Children were also encouraged to consider taking a route home that would make them less vulnerable.
This included not taking short cuts, cycling down back alleys or through parks and staying in well-lit and visible areas.
Parents were advised to record their child’s bike serial number and to photograph the bike.
