POLICE at Warrington today carried out a “knife sweep” in Orford Park – and discovered several items of drug paraphernalia and a makeshift barbed wire weapon.
Officers from the Warrington North neighbourhood team were helped by local residents and members of the Friends of Meadowside.
A police spokesperson said: “Knife crime is lower than the national average in Cheshire and we believe it is because of events like this and the help we receive from the community.”
This morning, police received a report of a man believed to be carrying a knife in the Whittle Hall area of Great Sankey.
Two officers went to the area and stopped two men, one of who matched the description of the man seen earlier.
A knife and a knuckleduster were recovered by the officers and the men were arrested.
