Warrington BID celebrate first year with major Christmas marketing campaign

WARRINGTON’S town centre businesses teamed up to celebrate the launch of a new destination marketing campaign, that will see thousands of pounds invested to drive people into the town this Christmas.

Warrington is Happening, is part of the BID’s commitment to promote and market Warrington as a destination. It is hoped that this creative campaign will draw more customers and visitors into the town centre during key sales periods.

Large-scale outside advertising, including bus sides, bus shelters, digital 6-screens and 48 sheets will be combined with a strategic digital and local marketing campaign to ensure maximum reach ahead of the festive season. The message will also be used to brighten up empty retail units across the town, bringing seasonal cheer as well as promoting the units to potential tenants.

Outdoor, print and digital adverts will begin to appear over the next few weeks, following the Greatest Showman themed official light switch on at Golden Square shopping centre this Friday, November 8.

The campaign will direct people to warringtonishappening.co.uk, a new one-stop destination website that will allow residents and visitors to discover places to shop, drink, eat and explore in the town centre as well as finding out about seasonal attractions taking place in Warrington this Christmas and beyond.

The news was announced at Warrington BID’s AGM, yesterday (Monday), where board members also used the opportunity to share the organisation’s achievements from the last twelve months.

The BID was established just over a year ago and so far it has invested almost £300,000 back into the town. Projects to date have included safety initiatives for the night time economy, improvements to green spaces, free training for local businesses and a project aimed at improving accessibility in the town.

During 2019, Warrington BID invested over £40,000 to help bring large-scale events to the town centre to drive footfall including the Warrington Music Festival in May, The Museum of the Moon installation at Parr Hall in October and most recently the £12,000 donation to secure the ice rink at the Old Market Square from 22nd Nov – 5th January.

BID Manager Harriet Roberts said: “Through this major Christmas campaign and the new website we are supporting levy payers by promoting their businesses, events, cultural scene, food and drink offering to locals and those outside of the town too. Our aim is to challenge perceptions of Warrington and let more people know that it’s all happening here this Christmas.”

The BID board Chair and Manager of Primark Warrington, Dawn McElroy said: “With funding from businesses across the town centre, we have delivered lots of great projects and improvements in our first year, including festivals, events and solutions to make the town look better and feel safer.

“This extensive marketing campaign for Christmas is our latest investment and marks our commitment to driving footfall into the town centre that will benefit all of our local businesses. There’s an air of excitement and buzz about Warrington at the moment, people know that positive things are finally happening in the town and that’s a great achievement for year one.”
