A49 closed in both directions after crash

POLICE are advising motorists to avoid the A49 Winwick Road, near Warrington this morning following a crash.
The collision, near the B&Q store, has left the road close in both directions with an oil spillage on the carriageway.  Three vehicles were involved with the occupants of two of them trapped and injured.  A third person was described by firefighters as “walking wounded.”
Emergency services are at the scene and traffic is heavy on the A49 between Winwick and Newton-le-Willows and towards Warrington.
Fire crews were at the scene for more than an hour.
