Toy Tesla car donation brings joy to young patients

WARRINGTON and Halton Hospitals’ Charity has received a brand new toy car for their Children’s Ward thanks to a local businessman who is a member of the Tesla owners club.

Young patients can now drive the sports car up to theatre to make the prospect of going into surgery a little less daunting.

The bright red Tesla was gifted to the hospital by local businessman, Tim Sharrock, Managing Director of CellTech, who is a member of the Tesla Owners Club.

Tim was joined by another Tesla Owners Club member, Daniel Johannson, and CellTech Retail Manager, Kath Wells, when delivering the car to the hospital, where they got the chance to spend time with the staff and children.

Tim said, “I have always had a passion for cars and wanted to spread a little happiness to children in hospital. I am delighted that the Tesla has been received so well by the hospital – and especially by the children.”

Helen Higginson, WHH Charity Fundraising Manager, said: “Since hearing the news about the car, we have been hearing a constant buzz of excitement and the Children’s Ward staff have been looking forward to being able to offer our young patients the opportunity to drive up to theatre in a Tesla.”

Jill Holland, play specialist at WHH, said: “It will be such a great distraction for both patient and family members who normally would walk to theatre, and although we have great distraction techniques in place this will just be an additional item, which is actually is so cool – we hugely appreciate Tim thinking of us.”

Helen continued: “Within minutes of the car being delivered, we had children wanting to get in and drive it around our large outdoor play area.

“It showed us all just how much this will make a difference to our young patients’ experiences in our hospitals and we are so very grateful to everyone involved in making this happen.”
