Brexiteers step up their campaign in Warrington

THE Warrington 4 Brexit campaign group has stepped up its protests to push for implementation of the referendum result ahead of important votes in Parliament.
In addition to its usual Saturday lunchtime rally at Market Gate, the group has also demonstrated at various points around the town including Bridge Foot under Oliver Cromwell’s statue.
Some members also went to join sister group Wigan Borough 4 Brexit in Wigan town centre on their first rally, which was extremely well supported despite the bad weather.
A spokesperson for Warrington 4 Brexit said: “We’re amazed and very humbled by the response to our group – taking into account the people who have joined at our stand at the Skittles together with those in our Facebook group we now have over 1,500 members and thenumbers are growing all the time, along with supporters on Twitter including the Brexiteer MP Kate Hoey and MEP Patrick O’Flynn.
“Support is also surging for the petition to our MPs. People tell us how angry and frustrated they are that MPs appear to believe that they are entitled to overturn the democratic vote to leave of 17.4 million people – the single highest vote for anything in the UK’s political history – and they tell us they are relieved that we are trying to make a stand.”
As the latest votes on Theresa May’s deal and amendments are imminent, the group decided to deliver the first batch of their petition to Warrington MPs, Faisal Rashid (Warrington South) and Helen Jones (Warrington North) at the end of last month.
The petition calls on both Labour MPs to honour their referendum pledge to respect the result of the 2016 referendum.
The spokesperson added: “Mr. Rashid was prepared to attend a meeting with the group and discuss Brexit, however he would not be drawn on whether or not he would be supporting Labour’s recent call for a second referendum and were that to happen, if ‘remain’ should be on the ballot paper.
“Ms Jones has so far refused to meet the group or to voice her opinion to them on Labour’s new policy to call for a second referendum.”
Supporters who wish to join Warrington4Brexit are invited to visit their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Warrington4Brexit or attend their weekly meetings at Woolston Social Club (formerly Woolston British Legion), 50 Manchester Road, WA1 4AD, on Thursday evenings from 7.15 pm to 9.15 pm.
