A FLOOD alert was issued at Warrington this morning as a combination of high tides and a tidal surge led to the level of the Mersey rising.
The Environment Agency warned that flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland was possible between 12 noon and 2pm.
A spokesman said: “We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land in the following places: Fiddlers Ferry between 12:30 and 13:30pm, Eastford Road between 12:45 and 13:45pm, Arpley Bridge between 13:00 and 14:00pm.
“ River levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge. Flood alerts may also be required for subsequent high tides.
“ Coastal conditions should ease by Thursday evening. We are not currently expecting to issue any flood warnings. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue (further) alerts if necessary. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.”
