LOCAL photographer Darren Moston is celebrating after receiving a “highly commended” in the British Wildlife Photography Awards animal portraits category of a baby duckling pictured at Stockton Heath.

The picture of the Mallard duckling titled “What are you doing there taking my photo?” was exhibited in London and is now part of an exhibition touring the country.

Darren from Latchford, Warrington, said: “I took the photo in Stockton Heath back in May when there were baby ducklings. There were four of them, two yellow and two normal. The mum and dad were both white ducks who have been around for years.

“The ducklings were wandering around in the grass and the first day they were on the towpath side luckily they didn’t mind me being there. So I lay down and snapped away.

“I have been taking photos now since 2009 and spend way too much time with the ducks and other animals, in Stockton Heath and Walton!

“I’m really happy to get highly commended as the competition is open to professionals as well and thousands of people enter it!”

Darren received a BWPA book as his prize.
