Ian Paice is a founder member of rock legends Deep Purple and is regarded as one of the most influential rock drummers of all time. Music – Paul Young – 35 Years of No Parlez Tour – Tuesday 9 October 2018 (7.30pm)

Firm favourite 80s crooner Paul Young is back on tour, performing his much-loved album No Parlez, in celebration of 35 years since its release. No Parlez was Paul’s debut album; it reached Number 1 in the UK charts in 1983, where it stayed for five weeks, fast becoming triple platinum. The album also produced Paul’s first UK Number 1 single – a cover of Marvin Gaye’s Wherever I Lay My Hat.

Art – Until Saturday 2 March 2019 (All Day) – Warrington Art Treasures: The National Picture

This is the third in a series of exhibitions celebrating landmark events in the history of the oldest public museum in the North West. Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is joining forces with National Museums Liverpool by borrowing three fantastic works – Enrico Coleman’s Oxen Drawing a Block of Stone to the Studio of John Warrington Wood and Sir Luke Fildes’ A Portrait of Fanny Fildes and The Widower.

Contemporary art – Until Saturday 15 September 2018 (All Day) – How to Dust the Surface

Commissioned by Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, this intriguing new work explores what could be created if data was decoded a little differently. Artists Juan Covelli and Neale Willis take on the role of contemporary archaeologists, searching for and sifting data from key sites around Warrington and the collections at Warrington Museum, before manipulating the way the computer processes the data to create new and surprising outcomes.

History – Until Saturday 15 September 2018 (All Day) – Days of the New Town: Birchwood at 50

In 1968, Warrington was one of several towns across the country to be designated a New Town. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Warrington New Town, Warrington Museum & Art Gallery are presenting a new exhibition which brings together photographs from the Development Corporation archive and a “people’s archive” which reflect Birchwood as both the architects’ vision and its lived and evolving reality.

Night Edge is a captivating collection of photographs by local artists Hazel Hughes, Estelle Cadwallader and Eli Regan, documenting life in the city after hours. Part of Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, Night Edge explores the nocturnal hours, looking at aspects ranging from the local landmarks which are brought to life through darkness, to the types of people found abroad once night falls.

Warrington Herstories tells the tales of 21 women with connections to the town – women who have made astounding achievements, shown insurmountable compassion to others or simply dared to be different. From writers to poets, social and political campaigners to natural historians, entertainers, doctors and even the odd criminal, these feisty females rivalled their male counterparts to contradict the widely-held perception that “it’s a man’s world”.

Artist Marc Turner will be working at Warrington Museum for the week producing a copy of Sir Luke Fildes’ A Portrait of Fanny Fildes. Why not pop in for an opportunity to see how a professional artist works and talk to him about the process of reproducing a famous painting. This event was made possible with a grant from the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund

Talk – Thursday 13 September 2018 (2:30pm) – Fildes and his House in London: a talk by Professor Caroline Dakers

Today, the name Woodland House in Holland Park, London, is associated with such celebrities such as Robbie Williams and Michael Winner, but few know the house was originally commissioned by Warrington artist Sir Luke Fildes. Join Professor Caroline Dakers as she steps back in time to explore this luxurious London home, and the man who lived there.

Have fun printing from a selection of designs on screen. Learn to flood and pull a screen to print on fabric and to overprint a second colour, adding to your design and coming away with your own unique printed samples. Age 12+

Workshop – Saturday 13 October 2018 (10am-12.15pm) – Clay hand/torso workshop with Debs Podmore

Be inspired by the beautiful sculptures of John “Warrington” Wood as ceramics artist Debs Podmore hosts the first of two workshops working with clay. Join Debs as she looks at the human form and creates small sculptures of different parts of the body, such as hands or part of the torso.

Workshop – Saturday 13 October 2018 (1.15pm-3.30pm) – Clay tile face workshop with Debs Podmore

Join ceramics artist Debs Podmore as she conducts the second of her two workshops on clay. Inspired by the sculptures of John “Warrington” Wood, this workshop will look at making relief tile panels inspired by the human face. Participants will get the chance to roll slabs of clay to make the tiles and then work directly on the clay to form facial features.

Talk – Tuesday 20 November 2018 (2.30pm) – Talk by Janice Hayes: The Family Behind the Portrait

One of Warrington Museum & Art Gallery’s best-loved works is Fair Quiet and Sweet Rest, a vibrant painting depicting four people drifting down a river on a boat. But who are the four subjects and why are they so significant to Warrington? Join Culture Warrington’s heritage manager Janice Hayes as she unravels this fascinating family history and explores how this painting catapulted artist Luke Fildes into an illustrious career.
