Warrington students get better at maths and English

THE number of Warrington students achieving a “strong pass” in GCSE Maths and English has increased, the borough council has announced.
It has been another year of successful exam results, with most of Warrington’s schools showing an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving the higher grades in the two, key subjects.
Across the borough, 47.6 per cent of students achieved Grade 5+ in Maths and English, a 1.6 per cent increase on last year.
Introduced last year, the reformed GCSEs in Maths and English are different in structure, content and assessment format and are graded using numbers rather than letters, with 9 being the top grade and 1 being the lowest.
Cllr Jean Carter, the council’s lead member for children’s services, said: “I would like to congratulate our young people on another year of excellent GCSE exam results. It’s great news that their hard work has been rewarded with such strong performances in Maths and English.
“The ongoing success of our schools, in a changing educational environment, shows that our students continue to get the right teaching and learning to succeed. And the support they are receiving from teachers, assistants, parents and governors is enabling them to achieve great things.”
