VIDEO: THE 27th annual Warrington Disability Awareness Day once again proved to be a huge success attracting thousands of people to Walton Hall and Gardens.

Even the World Cup and Wimbledon finals couldn’t stop the crowds rolling into the event, the brainchild of Warrington Disability Partnership founder and chief executive Dave Thompson, who again led a “Dad’s Army” of volunteer helpers stage a week long of activities.

Town Crier Peter Powell helped launch the 27th Disability Awareness Day, which has now been replicated at various countries around the world including India and Egypt.

Dave, who broke his neck playing American football 29 years ago, said: “Little did I know when I suffered my injury that it would spark something like this.

“We couldn’t do this without our army of dedicated volunteers and our various sponsors. I would like to thank everyone who has made this the biggest event of its kind in the world.”

Around 250 exhibitors were at the event, which also included a sports zone with have a go events, including scuba diving whihc proved very popular in the heat.

Inclusive Arts included a number of disabled artists including nationally recognised performers such as the Ella Performance Group and Carly Ryan.

Joint principal sponsors were St George Healthcare Group and St Mark Universal Copts Care.
