CELEBRATIONS are going on at St Thomas’ Church, Stockton Heath, to mark the 150th anniversary of the consecration of the present church building.
Special events are taking place throughout the summer and started with a cheese and wine evening to mark the beginning of a flower festival, “Our House of Prayer.”
At the cheese and wine evening there was a re-enactment of the parishioners meeting which took place on February 9, 1865, to plan the present building.
The flower festival will run until Sunday, July 1 from 10am to 4pm daily
There will be a “Best of British” concert with Golborne Brass Band on Saturday, June 30 at 7.30pm
On Sunday, July 1 the usual morning services will be followed by a special celebration service at 3pm.
The Bishop of Chester, the Rt Rev Dr Peter Forster will conduct the service, which will include readings from the 1868 consecration service, together with the planting of a yew tree and the burying of a time capsule enclosing items and prayers chosen by children of the church and St Thomas’ Primary School.
In addition, a booklet entitled “Notable Dates and Events in the Life of St Thomas’ Church” is available from the church.

How lovely! Hope there’s going to be loads of bell ringing with the bells our good Rev Ridley worked so hard to get us! St Thomas’ still thriving after 150 years – a brilliant community church!
