THE golden anniversary of Warrington’s twinning with the city of Hilden in Germany will be celebrated at this year’s annual Civic Sunday Service.

The new Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Karen Mundry, is inviting everyone to join her at the service which takes place on June 17.

Held each year to celebrate the inauguration of the new Mayor, this year’s event will include the Mayor of Hilden, Birgit Alkenings, to celebrate a 50-year friendship.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Civic Service – and the Mayor would love to welcome all those who have had involvement or a connection with Hilden over the years, so they can share their stories.

Cllr Mundry said: “The civic service is always a special occasion – and it’s set to be even more special this year as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our twinning with Hilden.

“It’s a friendship which we are very proud of, and I’m looking forward to welcoming the Mayor of Hilden and her delegation.

“I’d like to invite everyone to this event to help mark the start of a new Mayoral year and to celebrate our enduring partnership with our friends from Germany.”

The annual Civic Sunday Service takes place on Sunday 17 June at St Elphin’s Parish Church, Church Street, WA1 2TL.  The service will be led by The Rev Paul Wilson, Rector of Warrington,

All guests are asked to be seated in Church by 10.45am for the service, which will conclude at 12.15 pm.

Hilden is a city in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. With approximately 57,000 inhabitants, it is the fourth largest city in the District of Mettmann.
