Man escapes from knife-gang after robbery attempt

DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a man was subjected to an attempted robbery in Warrington.

The attack took place on Thursday, February 16 at around 8am when a 28-year-old local man was walking along Sharp Street, Warrington.

He was approached and threatened by two men demanding he hand over his mobile phone.

Several other men appeared from a nearby alleyway at that point and chased the victim – some of them were believed to be carrying knives.

The victim managed to flee the scene unharmed before alerting police.

One of the suspects is described as being around 5’ 4” tall, of slim build and had black hair, short at the sides and longer on top. He was wearing black jeans and a dark jumper.

The other man is described as 6’ tall, of slim build with black hair, short at the sides, spiked up on top.

He was wearing dark jeans and a dark jumper and is believed to be of Eastern European origin.

Detective Constable Stephen Deehan said: “We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry and I am extremely keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may know the identity of the offenders. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 116 of 16 February.”
