Cricket battles against the weather

TORRENTIAL rain wiped out most of the cricket programme across Cheshire – including both Warrington and Grappenhall’s 1st XI fixtures in the Vivio Cheshire County League.
But a handful of games were played – including some involving Warrington area sides.
Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd XI managed to play a shortened game against Mobberley at Oughtrington Lane and got the better of a draw.
Batting first, Lymm ground out 107 runs for the loss of eight wickets, Graham Walmsley top-scoring with 27 and Liam Ramsbottom hitting 19.
Mobberley struggled for runs and were hanging on at 72-9 when play ended. Tony Spaven took 4-11 and Robert Hutton 2-4.
Warrington 2nd travelled to Chester Boughton Hall  and chalked up a valuable 90-run victory.
Adam Begg hit 49 and skipper David Lee 44 as Warrington hit 201-5. The home side were then bwled out for 111, Raj Soni taking 3-24 and William Gilbert 4-22.
Stretton lost by 12 runs at Wilmslow where the home side batted first and reached 148-9. K Gavaskar took 4-44 and Ali Zubain 4-34.
Stretton were dismissed for 136 with J Mir hitting 34 and A Ashraf 33.
