ELEVEN women from soft drinks manufactuer Vimto – including chief executive officer Marnie Millard – are to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Warrington Youth Club
The Haydock-based company – which has already raised almost £200,000 for the club over the years – has set itself an ambitious target of raising £50,000 with the climb.
Anyone wishing to donate towards the groups fundraising target can do so by visiting The Vimto Kilimanjaro Adventure 2016 page – http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/wycgirlstrekkili.
Donations can also be made by texting VIMTO5 to give £5 or VIMTO10 for £10 to 70500.
Warrington Youth Club, which supports underprivileged and disabled children in the local area, intends to use the funds to buy mini buses that are vital in ensuring children are able to participate in WYC activities.
Marnie Millard said: “The work that is done by Warrington Youth Club changes the lives of so many local children, and we are proud to say that we have been supporting this incredible cause.
“The club is on our doorstep so there is no better charity for us to raise funds for than one in our local community. If we can continue to contribute to their fantastic work by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, then all the training will be worthwhile.
“We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target but hope our colleagues and the community will get behind us. Any donation big or small is very much appreciated.”
Dave McNicholl, chief executive at Warrington Youth Club said: “We greatly appreciate the support that Vimto has shown the club raising close to £200,000 over the years.
“Some of our children have had the opportunity to experience working for a leading company through short-term employment and voluntary roles provided by Vimto. It’s amazing that this year they will be going more than the extra mile to support us, and we wish them the best of luck.”
The trek will take the Vimto team seven days in total from March 19 – five to reach the summit and a further two for the descent. The group will return on March 28.
